He has also represented his nation several times, having bagged silver at the 2003 World Junior Championship and is considered a team leader who plays in all positions. Best known for his power plays and penalty killing skills, Brooks is a dedicated and hardworking athlete in the field.

Laich was drafted by Ottawa Senators in the sixth round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft but was traded to Seattle Thunderbirds the same year. He spent his junior career with Thunderbirds and started as an offensive player while he was also named as the Most Dedicated player of the season for his side. With 41 goals and 53 assists in the 2002-03 season, he was sixth in the overall WHL stats making it to the First All-Star Team in the league.

Laich started his professional hockey career with Binghampton Senators in 2004 in the AHL while he made his NHL debut with Senators against New Jersey Devils. He was traded to Washington Capitals in 2003 and also played for the Bears after Capital’s season was over.

A notable athlete for the Capitals, Brooks was a restricted free agent in 2008 after which he signed a deal for three years with the team. He then signed a six-year contract in 2011 that included $27 million contract extension worth $4.5 million per season.

However, he couldn’t see the contract to the end as a result of an injury he suffered which led to a decline in his performance. Because of this, he was traded to his boyhood team, Toronto Maple Leaf for Daniel Winnik in 2016.

Although he was a free agent, his performance rapidly improved, but he still remained unsigned over the summer. For the love of the game, he accepted a try-out contract and decided to attend the Los Angeles Kings training camp. Before the 2017/18 season, however, he was released even after he recorded good performance.

The 200-pound native of Wawota recently signed a one-year contract with LA Kings which will have him serve as a possible short-term solution for the club after Jeff Carter suffered an injury during the club’s game with Montreal Canadiens.

The value of Brooks’s 1-year contract is placed at an Annual Average Value (AAV) of $650,000. At 34, there is a doubt that he will retire anytime soon. Currently, while Brooks Laich’s net worth is estimated to be $25 million, that of his wife, Julianne Hough, is estimated to be as much as $7 million.

While his hockey career has been the major source of his wealth, it should be expected that the man earns from other sources. In 2010, he was recognized for his deeds and nominated for the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.

The star started dating professional dancer and actress Julianne Hough in 2014 and the couple married on July 8, 2015, in a massive ceremony in Idaho.

Since then, the two have become as close as ever, with both of them supporting the other in their different fields. Although Julianne and hockey are the love of Brooks’ life, he also plays guitar and golf in his free time. He only does these as hobbies and fun and not as an extra job.
