Evan Spiegel is the founder and CEO of mobile messaging and social media platform Snapchat. He is worth approximately $2.5 Billion.
Born in Los Angeles, California, on June 4th, 1990, Evan is the son of lawyer parents. He grew up in the Pacific Palisades, a wealthy neighborhood within LA, east of Malibu. His parents were also well off, having been members of social clubs such as the Jonathan Club in Santa Monica and the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. Spiegel has admitted himself that his upbringing was very privileged and that he ‘lived in a bubble’.
As a high school senior, Spiegel took design classes at local colleges during the summer before entering he attended Stanford the following year. He held internships at Intuit and Red Bull, but dropped out of school to focus on developing Snapchat, which started off as a project in a project design course.
Together with cofounders Reggie Brown and Bobby Murphy, Evan developed the mobile application, living at his father’s house in the Palisades with his coworkers after dropping out of Stanford. In November 2014, Spiegel purchased a $3.3 Million dollar home in Brentwood.
Snapchat is a mobile social media platform that allows users to send picture messages that expire after viewing. It is estimated that Snapchat has 100-200 million monthly users. As of writing, Snapchat is valued at over $19 Billion.
