Jason Kidd is a former basketball player who played in the NBA for 19 years for teams like the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets, and New York Knicks. Jason Kidd has an estimated net worth of $75 million

The point guard’s career lasted from 1994 to 2013 when he retired. He is most noted for his impressive passing ability which allowed him to lead the NBA in assists five times and retire second all-time in NBA history in both assists and steals. Kidd is also lauded for his rebounding ability, a trait not usually synonymous with guards.

After his playing career ended, Kidd moved into coaching and was swiftly appointed head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. He would later go on to coach the Milwaukee Bucks before becoming the assistant coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019.

Jason Kidd’s Early Days

Jason Kidd began showing his exceptional skills as a basketball player while attending St. Paschal Baylon School. He was noted as one of the top players in the country when he was in high school as he led his team to win a state championship. Kidd took his interest and passion for the game to the next level when he enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley.

During his collegiate basketball playing days for the Golden Bears, Kidd continued to impress with his ability. In his first year, he was bestowed with the national Freshman of the Year award after averaging 13 points, 4.9 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 3.8 steals per game. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 9.1 assists, and 3.1 steals per game to be selected a First Team All-American and be named Pac-10 Player of the Year. After the year, he opted to enter the 1994 NBA Draft where he was drafted second overall by the Dallas Mavericks.

His Rise to Fame as an NBA Star

Jason Kidd had an instant impact on the Mavericks after joining the team. In his rookie year, he led the league in triple-doubles as he averaged 11.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game to help his team to an improved record of 36–46 after having managed 13–69 in the previous season. As a result of this, he shared the NBA Rookie of the Year award with Detroit Piston’s Grant Hill.

Kidd ended up playing about three seasons for the Mavericks before he was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 1996. The team opted to let go of the young star due to the continuous problems he had with the coaching staff. Notwithstanding, the point guard continued with his outstanding performances on the court for his new team and by the 1998-99 season he became the only player to be rated in the top 50 in 10 different statistical categories of the NBA.

Jason Kidd helped the Suns reach the playoffs in each of the five seasons he was with them before he was traded to the New Jersey Nets in 2001. The San Francisco native would later rejoin the Dallas Mavericks in 2008 and was part of the team that won the NBA Championship in 2011 after they surprisingly defeated LeBron James and the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.

In 2012, at the age of 39, Jason Kidd signed with the New York Knicks. He played just one season with the team before announcing his retirement as a pro basketball player in June 2013.

Coaching Career After 19 Years as a Player

A few days after his retirement, Jason Kidd was appointed head coach of the Brooklyn Nets on the 12th of June, 2013. Having been charged for driving while intoxicated in July 2012, the 10-time NBA All-star was suspended for two games, and thus, he had to miss his first two games of the season. He eventually began his coaching duties on the 3rd of November where his team lost to the Orlando Magic.

Following a series of poor performances, Kidd was subjected to heavy criticism but he, however, managed to turn things around to finish the season with a record of 44-38. He went on to lead the Nets to the 2014 NBA Playoffs where he became the first rookie coach in NBA history to win a 7-game series. Nevertheless, his team never made it to the finals as they lost to the Miami Heat in the conference semi-finals.

In July 2014, after just a year as head coach of the Nets, Jason Kidd left the team and took the head coach position at the Milwaukee Bucks. He subsequently improved the franchise’s previous season poor record and they finished the 2014-15 season with a record of 41-41. In his fourth year on the job, the former basketball star was fired by the team in the middle of the 2017-18 season after the team posted a record of 23-22.

Kidd has since then chosen to take a step back in his career to serve as the assistant coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, a role he took up in July 2019.

How Much is He Worth?

Jason Kidd won two gold medals with Team USA at the 2000 and 2008 Olympics. He is also remembered for winning the NBA Championship in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks. All these projects and the prize money he has received along the way have contributed greatly to his financial strength. He is reported to have an estimated net worth of $75 million.

After he was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 1994, Kidd penned down a six-year contract valued at $30 million. Later in 2001, he signed a three-year deal worth $25 million with the Phoenix Suns before earning $99 million from his six-year deal with the New Jersey Nets. On returning to Dallas in 2008, the point guard penned down a three-year contract valued at $24.5 million.

Thanks to all of this, the former NBA player leads a luxurious life, owning a multi-million dollar mansion in the Hamptons and driving some of the most expensive cars ever, including a 1958 Chevy Impala.

Although Jason Kidd is today happily married to his gorgeous wife Porschla Kidd, he was once in a tumultuous marriage that made tabloid headlines. The NBA legend was previously married to journalist and actress Joumana Kidd for 10 years. The pair share three kids; son Trey Jason and twin daughters; Miah and Jazelle.

In 2001, Kidd pleaded guilty to a charge for domestic abuse against Joumana. Afterward, he was ordered to enroll in a six-month anger management program. Later in January 2007, the athlete filed for divorce, citing emotional instability and cruel behavior by Joumana as the reason for the split. In the next month, however, his soon-to-be ex-wife filed a counterclaim for divorce, saying that Kidd fractured her ribs and equally damaged her hearing through incessant domestic abuse.

In 2008, after his relationship with Joumana had come to an end, Kidd began a romantic relationship with Porschla Coleman. She is a former model who has worked for brands like Rocawear, Danskin, and Frederick’s of Hollywood. She has also made appearances on TV shows like The Morning Blend and Khloe & Lamar. She is presently serving as the executive director of a non-profit organization founded by her husband – Jason Kidd Foundation.

After dating for almost two years, the couple welcomed a son named Chance Kidd on January 24th, 2010. They later solemnized the union on September 10th, 2011. In the following year, the two expanded their family with the arrival of a daughter named Noah Grace.
