A student at the University Autónoma Latinoamericana of Medellín for a short period, Escobar was involved in several street scams that included selling contraband cigarettes and fake lottery tickets.

In order to build his empire, he set up rewards of $500,000 per flight to pilots who helped him smuggle cocaine to US.

He controlled drug networks in countries like US, Mexico, Spain, Peru, Bolivia, among others while his network also reached to Asia. Pablo Escobar bribed countless government officials and was also said to have been involved in the assasination of Luis Carlos Galan, a presidential candidate.
