Born on February 19, 1963, in Paddington, London, England to Nigerian and Brazilian parents, Seal was raised by his foster parents in the City of Westminster. After graduating as a diploma holder in architecture, Seal worked as an architect before he shifted his interest as well as career choice towards singing.
The musician started as a part of many bands and sang extensively but his actual breakthrough in the music field came when he sang the song “Killer” after meeting with the producer, Adamski. In 1995, the song “Kiss from a rose,” off Seal’s second eponymous album rose to critical acclaim when it was selected to be part of the soundtrack for the movie “Batman Forever.” In an interview on the Brian McKnight show finale, he confessed that though the song was written back in 1987, he was never proud of it but his producer encouraged him not to dispose of it.
The song was eventually released in 1994 and reached top 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100. But after the song was featured on the Batman Forever soundtrack in 1995, alongside a video, the song re-entered the charts and reached the number 1 spot for one whole week in the US.
