Grace Jones Began Building Her Worth and Popularity with Modeling

Born on May 19, 1948, in Spanish Town, Jamaica to a strictly religious family, Grace Beverly Jones was quite timid when she was growing up. Her father was Robert W. Jones, an Apostolic clergyman, and local politician while her mother, Marjorie Jones died in early 2017. It is known that Grace’s mother was a high jumper. She even qualified for the Olympics but her father’s church forced her to withdraw as the sport would warrant her showing her legs.

On growing up, Grace Jones became defiant to her religious upbringing and was able to kickstart her modeling career  following her family’s relocation to New York when she was 13. Grace’s skinny frame made her distinct and paved the way for her to easily delve into modeling. At 18, she signed with the popular New York modeling agency, Wilhelmina Models. She subsequently moved to Paris in 1970 where Yves St. Laurent, Claude Montana, and Kenzo Takada hired her for runway modeling.

Jones also modeled for Azzedine Alaia, a Tunisian couture and shoe designer, frequently promoting his line. Grace Jones Can’t Get a Divorce!

Years after ending her relationship with Jean-Paul, Grace Jones began dating her Turkish bodyguard, Atila Altaunbay. The duo subsequently tied the knot in 1996 but the marriage didn’t last long. This was as a result of Altaunbay inability to handle Jones’ popularity as they frequently quarrelled over her open lifestyle. On one of such occasions, Atila threatened Grace with a knife to her neck at which point she decided to leave the marriage.

Since then, Jones said (in her memoir) that she has not been able to contact Altaunbay so they can process a divorce. However, Grace Jones has thereafter had other relationships none of which has led to marriage. But at the moment, the former model is not in any known relationship.

Meanwhile, Paulo Guode, Grace Jones’ son with Jean-Paul Guode is her only child. Paulo appears to be living away from the media as there are scarcely any information about him on the internet.
