Grace Jones has been active in the show business since 1973 and has from her career, built a net worth of $10 million as of 2021.

Grace Jones Began Building Her Worth and Popularity with Modeling

Born on May 19, 1948, in Spanish Town, Jamaica to a strictly religious family, Grace Beverly Jones was quite timid when she was growing up. Her father was Robert W. Jones, an Apostolic clergyman, and local politician while her mother, Marjorie Jones died in early 2017. It is known that Grace’s mother was a high jumper. She even qualified for the Olympics but her father’s church forced her to withdraw as the sport would warrant her showing her legs.

On growing up, Grace Jones became defiant to her religious upbringing and was able to kickstart her modeling career  following her family’s relocation to New York when she was 13. Grace’s skinny frame made her distinct and paved the way for her to easily delve into modeling. At 18, she signed with the popular New York modeling agency, Wilhelmina Models. She subsequently moved to Paris in 1970 where Yves St. Laurent, Claude Montana, and Kenzo Takada hired her for runway modeling.

Moreover, Grace appeared on the cover of many reputable magazines including En Vogue, Elle and others. Jones also modeled for Azzedine Alaia, a Tunisian couture and shoe designer, frequently promoting his line. From all indications, Grace Jones earned huge success as a model in Paris; and her career success, without doubt, came along with significant monetary benefits.

Jones Made More Money and Fame after She Began Singing and Acting in the 1970s

It’s quite interesting to know that Grace Jones did not acquire her net worth of $10 million only through modeling. As of 1974, Grace had already found her interest in music. She subsequently signed to Island Records to release her debut album Portfolio in 1977. Although this album consisted of songs from other artists, it finished with Jones’s first club hit “I Need a Man”. Not long after, she released a follow-up album, Fame which was also a hit.

After dishing out two more albums, Jones later recorded more fame as a singer with her fifth studio album, Nightclubbing which she released in 1981. The album ranked among the Top 5 in four countries and became Jones’s highest-ranking record on the US Billboard mainstream albums and R&B charts. Nightclubbing which went on to claim the number 1 slot on NMEs Album of the Year list remains Jones’s best studio album.

In 1982, Grace Jones released her sixth studio album, Living My Life. The title track of this album “My Jamaican Guy” which had a video version made Jones be on the nominees’ list for  Grammy’s Best Long-Form Music Video the following year. The unique singer has since released four more studio albums, namely: Slave To Rhythm (1985), Inside Story (1986), Bulletproof Heart (1989), and Hurricane (2008).

Her Earnings from Movies and Television Shows

Grace Jones’s debut film was Gordon’s War where she featured as Mary in 1973. She also displayed her acting prowess in One Man Show, a performance art in which she performed tracks from her albums. Subsequently, Grace found fame in acting when she acted as Zula in the 1984 film, Canon the Destroyer which grossed $31 million in the United States. Her Performance gave her a place on the nomination list for Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Ever since then, Grace Jones has appeared in so many other films, some of which were quite successful and earned her good money alongside award recognitions. Notable among them are A View to a Kill (1985) which grossed $152.4 million, Straight to Hell (1987), Boomerang (1992) which earned over $131 million worldwide, Cyber Bandits (1995), and Wolf Girl (2001).

Moreover, Grace also extended to appearing on TV shows. She appeared in many documentaries like Behind the Music-studio 54, a VH1 television documentary where popular artists are invited and interviewed based on the ups and downs of their careers. Her latest documentary is Bloodlight and Bami. This is a concert performance that showcased the life and talent of Grace Jones. It had an opening of $60,442 in three theatres over the weekend, thereby getting an impressive average of $20,147. That was the highest of the weekend and one of the best non-fiction openings in 2018, grossing $632,394 worldwide.

Is the Model Married, and Does She Have Kids?

Grace Jones has been in numerous romantic relationships many of which were with high profile personalities. However, her affair with iconic French photographer, Jean-Paul Goude remains the most prominent. Grace Jones met Jean-Paul Goude in 1977 on professional grounds. Recall that we earlier mentioned Goude among the A-list photographers Jones posed for during her modeling career. Jean-Paul also worked as Jones’ creative/design partner. Their relationship however, soon turned romantic as  Paul became magnetized by her charm and sexuality.

As their affair continued, Goude and Jones welcomed a son together whom they named Paulo in 1979. From thenceforth however, the duo’s love for each other apparently began to wax cold until they eventually parted ways.

Grace Jones Can’t Get a Divorce!

Years after ending her relationship with Jean-Paul, Grace Jones began dating her Turkish bodyguard, Atila Altaunbay. The duo subsequently tied the knot in 1996 but the marriage didn’t last long. This was as a result of Altaunbay inability to handle Jones’ popularity as they frequently quarrelled over her open lifestyle. On one of such occasions, Atila threatened Grace with a knife to her neck at which point she decided to leave the marriage.

Since then, Jones said (in her memoir) that she has not been able to contact Altaunbay so they can process a divorce. However, Grace Jones has thereafter had other relationships none of which has led to marriage. But at the moment, the former model is not in any known relationship.

Meanwhile, Paulo Guode, Grace Jones’ son with Jean-Paul Guode is her only child. Paulo appears to be living away from the media as there are scarcely any information about him on the internet.
