Rannazzisi is known for his claim of working for Merrill Lynch, on the 54th floor of the World Trade Center towers during the 2001 September 11 attacks. He described the events as a near-death experience, which supposedly inspired him to move to LA and enter the entertainment industry. In September 2015, Rannazzisi admitted his story wasn’t true after being debunked by a reporter from The New York Times.

The stupidity and guilt I have felt for many years has not abated. It was an early taste of having a public persona, and I made a terrible mistake.
