Gleason was born on March 19, 1977 in Spokane, Washington. He went to high school at Gonzaga Prep. He played in the Greater Spokane League for his high school and won many awards as linebacker. When he graduated in 1995, he was offered a scholarship to play college football at Washington State University in Pullman. He accepted that offer and was a starting linebacker for 1997 team. That team advanced to the Rose Bowl.

Gleason’s professional career started when he was signed by Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent. He was only in the training period during the preseason when they released him. He was then signed to New Orleans Saints.

Gleason proved himself when he blocked a punt by Atlanta Falcons punter and recovered the ball in their end zone for a touchdown. It was the time when a deadly hurricane heavily damaged the city and devastated the team. He gave them hope and happiness and became a legend of New Orleans Saints. That season was one of the most successful season New Orleans Saints ever had up to that time.

In September, 2011 he was awarded Super Bowl ring by the Saints. His blocked punt was so great and famous that in 2012 a statue, depicting his blocked punt, was raised outside the Superdome. New Orleans’ fans still take his name with the utmost respect because he saved their team when they were going through one of the worst spells of their history.

In 2011 he revealed that he had ALS. But he didn’t gave up. He is leading a happy life now. He is running a charity to help others suffering from ALS.
