Jerome Jarre is famous for several reasons. He has over 15 million followers on social media platforms and, his Ugly Selfie Challenge is only one of the many reasons he has received bountiful admiration.

It was in 2015 that Jarre began the #UglySelfieChallenge, inviting people to quit trying to take perfect selfies, and post selfies making silly faces; everyone was meant to nominate three more people to do the same.

Jerome Jarre Bio

Jerome Jarre is a French entrepreneur, creator and humanitarian popular for being a Vine star, and Snapchat star. Born and raised in Albertville, France by his single mother, Jerome moved to China at the age of 19 after dropping out of Kedge Business School.

He stayed in China for one year and learned how to speak English and Chinese languages. He started several businesses in China, one of which became successful. While still in Toronto, he got news about the launch of Vine (a short-form video hosting service where users could share six-second-long looping video clips) and created an account on the platform.

Subsequently, he moved back to Paris, France and started making Vine while he was still managing his business. Eventually, he abandoned his business to focus completely on working as a vlogger on Vine. Records have it that Jerome Jarre was among the first few people to release a video on the day Vine launched in January 2013. Most of his vines feature him playing pranks on strangers.

His video ‘Don’t be afraid to love’, which was posted three months after the social media platform came into existence, is considered to be one of the most viral videos during the early days of Vine. This made him a Vine star overnight!

According to Jerome Jarre, his account grew from 20,000 followers to 1 million followers just one month after his viral video was featured on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on two occasions. But that was just the beginning! Ellen eventually invited him to cover the Red Carpet ceremony of the 86th Academy Awards, where he made multiple vines with Hollywood actors.

Following the remarkable success Jerome experienced on Vine, he decided to replicate it on Snapchat. He got an account with the image messaging and multimedia mobile application and started telling 2-minute stories. Most popular among his stories was the one he did about a carrot looking for his father. Sometime in July 2014, he made a Snapchat story with Snapchat’s CEO, Evan Spiegel. This happened after he tweeted that he’s outside Snapchat’s office.

The tweet went viral and Snapchat had to invite him in. Prior to that, in November 2013, Jarre launched a project on Vine called Humans. The project was all about asking strangers the question “what is the most important message you would like to share with the world right now?”.

The videos of this project were posted under a separate Vine account, Humans.

Later in 2014, Jarre was hired by Canal+ to cover Cannes Film Festival that year and at the Tribeca Film Festival same year, he served as one of the jurors of the 6-second film competition. Also in 2014, Jerome Jarre rejected a $1,000,000 offer from a top NYC advertising agency due to the fact that the product conflicted with his principles.

One of Jarre’s major controversies on the Vine community was stirred up in June 2014 when he posted a Vine in which he played a kiss prank on John Stamos and Stamos returned the kiss. The disgusted commenters accused him of being gay and threatened to unfollow him for it.

However, rather than appease his disgruntled followers, Jerome Jarre posted a follow-up Vine video the next day, claiming he’s not gay, then went ahead to kiss a fellow Vine star, Nicholas Megalis, on the mouth to show support for the LGBT community.

Having left a foot-print on Vine, Jerome Jarre decided to leave the social media platform in 2015.

As of June 2017, Jarre helped to raise money for the people of Somalia troubled by drought.
